Book Rec: The Book of Delights

The Book of Delights by Ross Gay

Oh, what a DELIGHT this book is! I realize that sounds a bit like stating the obvious, but there really is no better to describe how this book made me feel. It’s a lovely exploration of what “focusing on the positive” can look like in an authentic, non-bypassing way. Full of wit and charm, this book helps me recognize the delight present in everyday life.

It’s also a wonderful example of how things like gratitude practices and reframing can literally rewire the brain to strengthen neural pathways associated with positive thinking. The “essayettes” (as Gay calls them) are all a quick read; some are funny, some are poignant, some are touching, and some are all of these and more. I find it is the perfect companion or when you have a few minutes to wait in line (or sit on the toilet). I highly recommend!

If you prefer to listen, the audiobook is narrated by the author, or you can hear him being interviewed by Krista Tippett on the On Being podcast here.
